Behavioral health, which includes both mental health conditions and substance use disorders, requires coordination of care across health, housing, and social service systems. California has invested heavily over the past several years in initiatives that aim to increase access to these critical services and implement programs that address complex needs across the behavioral health spectrum. State regulators, local agencies, providers, and health plans are collaborating to better align funding and services to strengthen the behavioral health system. Perspectives from a variety of experts with on-the-ground experience will provide insights into how key initiatives are being implemented and assessed for compliance, best practices, and lessons learned.

Abstract: This session focuses on the critical role of social determinants of health in shaping behavioral health outcomes and the importance of addressing these factors to strengthen mental health and substance use care. By exploring the intersection of socioeconomic status, access to healthcare, housing, education, and community support, we will examine how these factors impact individuals' ability to engage in and benefit from behavioral health services.
